I was a bit disappointed when the big assignment was launched this month. We had to turn our ships in bottles and nautical icons into wall art. Part of doing this course for me was to hone in on my style of illustration/art and to me this means a style I would be happy to hang on my wall and tell the world about (bit idealistic I know). The sketches I had done were just not what I would want to put on my wall, they were far too junior. So it was back to the drawing board.
I sketched my favourite whale again but not in the simple stylized way I had been doing. Using a much more realistic silhouette and dropping washes and textures behind, my final piece came together really quickly, which is always a good sign.
Here is my final piece, I am imagining it printed on fine art paper and framed in a simple white box frame with a large white border. In a little boys room? It doesn't always have to be tricked up to work!
The June gallery is now live, take a look at all the amazing submission here.
